Back for it’s second year, the VAULT Film Festival explodes across twenty different screenings between January 25th and March 5th 2017.

Our eclectic programme of shorts and features is curated and selected by Niger Asije, editor of the New Current.

Every Saturday and Sunday throughout the festival, we’ll host one or more Features and a selection of Shorts. Tickets to screenings are only £5 – and if you come to both the Feature and the Shorts on the same day, you’ll save £2!

Kidnap Capital

In a coal mine in Spain, our gaze focuses on the hypnotic cadence of work revealing the continuous movement of the machinery devouring workers: the very last gestures of the mythical mining labor slowly disappearing. Perhaps it is one of the last active coal mines in Europe. We do not know, but the miners are still trying to salvage the unstoppable.

A big unfinished tableau upon which she finds it not only amusing but absolutely essential to paint.

This comedic music video begins with what seems like a strange breakup song between a young man and an older woman. As he sings about his heartbreak, it is slowly revealed that the women is in fact his mother, and he isn’t upset about love, but because she forgot to pick him up from soccer practice.

La Valle Du Sel / The Valley of Salt

In the midst of Egypt’s worst political time, a young filmmaker returns home, to Cairo, for the first time since the start of the revolution. Before leaving Switzerland, his parents warn him that they are receiving death threats as a result of their work amongst christian communities. For two weeks, a son watches his parents face a situation that will shake their faith and question their presence in their own country.
